How to Choose Your Shapewear Size

How to Choose Your Shapewear Size

Why Sizing Matters More with Shapewear

Shapewear works by compressing and smoothing — which means the fit has to be precise. Too small and it's uncomfortable; too large and it won't do its job. Getting your size right from the start saves you the hassle of returns and ensures you actually enjoy wearing it.

Step 1: Take Your Measurements

You'll need a soft measuring tape. Measure over bare skin or light underwear — not over clothing.

  • Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.
  • Waist: Measure around your natural waist — the narrowest point, usually just above your belly button.
  • Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat, about 8 inches below your natural waist.

Write these numbers down. You'll use all three to find your size.

Step 2: Read the Size Chart

Every shapewear style at Kore has a size chart on the product page. Always check it — sizing can vary between styles depending on the level of compression and the fabric used. Our size charts list measurements in centimetres (cm), so convert if needed.

Tip: If your measurements fall between two sizes, size up. Shapewear that's too tight can roll down, dig in, or restrict movement.

Step 3: Consider the Compression Level

Kore shapewear comes in different compression levels:

  • Light compression — comfortable for all-day wear, smooths without squeezing.
  • Medium compression — firms and shapes, good for most occasions.
  • Firm compression — maximum shaping, best worn for shorter periods or special occasions.

If you're new to shapewear, start with light or medium compression. You can always move up once you know how it feels.

Step 4: Think About the Style

Different styles cover different areas. A high-waist brief shapes the waist and hips. A bodysuit shaper covers that and your back and chest. A thigh shaper targets the upper legs. Make sure the style you choose covers the area you want to smooth.

Common Sizing Mistakes to Avoid

  • Measuring over clothes — always measure on bare skin.
  • Choosing size based on your regular clothing size — shapewear sizing is independent.
  • Ignoring the waist measurement — it's often the deciding factor.
  • Buying firm compression for everyday wear when you're just starting out.

Still Not Sure?

Check the size chart on each product page, or browse our full collection to find the right style for you. If you're between sizes, our general rule is: size up for comfort, size down only if you want maximum compression and are comfortable with a snug fit.
